Introduction

In this lesson you will learn about some of the basic functions of InDesign.

  1. Open InDesign

  2. Create a new document and select the "letter" preset

  3. Familiarize yourself with the menu options on the top bar

  4. Select the "rectangle tool" from the tool panel on the left

  5. Click and drag on the document to draw the rectangle

  6. Select the "selection tool" from the tool panel on the left

  7. Drag and resize the rectangle to your liking

  8. Use the properties panel on the right to adjust the border weight, color, and style

  9. Select the "fill color" option from the properties panel and double-click on a swatch

  10. Adjust the values to set the color to your liking (Mercer Orange is RGB 247, 104, 0)

  11. Select the "type" tool from the tool panel

  12. Click inside the rectangle

  13. Use keyboard command control-b (command-b on Mac) to open the "text frame options" window

  14. Use the up arrows to increase the "inset spacing" and click "okay"

  15. Use the properties panel on the right to adjust your font, font size, and font color to your liking

  16. Go to the File tab and click save (or use keyboard command control-s on Windows or command-s on Mac) to save and name your document

  17. Go to the File tab, click export, click save on the pop up window, adjust your export settings, and click "Export"
